I woke up with a bug bite on my stomach/abdomen region. I don’t like bug bites, not for the reason that they will leave marks or anything, but because it’s creepy to think a bug was on that spot long enough to suck my blood/bite me.

While frantically taking photos of rainbows from the backseat of a moving car yesterday, I was simultaneously experiencing some of the worst pain in recent memory. Early on in the 45min drive, something flew threw the front passenger side window and lodged itself in my neck. The pain was instant and incredibly intense, and I quickly started to cry and turned to Nick who was next to me, staying remarkably calm. We established that my throat wasn’t closing up, and then he carefully removed what must have been some kind of insect’s stinger with his fingers. My friends had Siri identify the nearest pharmacy, as the pain stayed constant and the swelling and redness increased. It turned out that the closest one was at our destination nearly 30min away, and since we determined that my life wasn’t in danger, I just distracted myself with the scenery while Nick held my hand and checked in every minute or so.
By the time we reached Lahaina, the pain had begun to die down slightly and the area wasn’t getting any worse. I picked up some benadryl cream and saw significant improvement within 10-15min. Two hours later, there was no evidence that anything had ever happened.
Oh, Hawaii.
